eSnips Videos for y'all.

Hi Guys!

Over the last months, some videos have been put together; things that we thought would be good content for the DJ and Video communities.

As kind of a "Last Blogge Poste" by me, they're featured here, for your viewing pleasure:

*DJ MK talks about Being a hip hop DJ, pirate radio and mix tapes – and dealing with your laptop when it breaks down on you… (3 part video)

*DJ Skazi talks about how he got started, what equipment he uses , and who, when he's on top of the world, his heroes are.

*Sagi Rei talks about why and how he started singing, and gives an impromptu performance

*And the DJ Spin off Mix was set to video art!(3 part video)

I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks to everyone, for an amazing year….

The download button: changes for music files

Musicians and singers – listen up!

Partly as a response to your requests, and partly because some signed artists have opened eSnips profiles and asked to prevent downloads of their work, we’ve decided to give you more control as to who gets to download your audio files.  Our new audio-only tool allows you to determine, for each file, if it can be downloaded or only listened to from the site.

Up to now, audio files could be downloaded only when you were signed in.  As of today, users who upload or already have a MP3 or WMA audio file in their folders can decide if it can be downloaded or not.

To allow visitors to download your files in public or group folders click “edit details” next to the file.  The “edit details” link is available only in the “List” “Details” or “One by One” folder views.  On the bottom of the file edit page, you will see the text below.  By checking this box your file will be available for download.  If you don’t check it, the file will only be available for listening only.  By default, files are not available for download.  You’ll need to do this for every audio file you want to enable for download, and for every new audio file you upload.  Download_message_4

When you change a folder from private to either group or public, files will not be available for download unless you purposely enable it.

What does your profile say about you?

What do you want people to think when they look at your profile?  “Who is this guy?” or maybe “wow, this person sounds interesting, I’d love to get to know him.”

Prefer the latter?  Let your profile say more about you by adding some basics: your photo, age, gender, and country. Then, if you feel so inclined, add a bit more in the “About me” section – tell us about your hobbies, what’s important to you, and what you share on eSnips… just to mention a few ideas.

My favorite part of the profile is the “Philosophy of Life” sentence. First, it’s clear that a lot of people really put an effort into thinking up a one-sentence statement about who they really are and second, it can tell me almost all I need to know about a person. A few of my favorites are Genise’s “Music was my first love and it will be my last!” (Anyone who is even a bit familiar with Genise knows that that’s absolutely true) and Olga’s “When life hands you lemons, grab the salt and the Tequila baby!" (Hey, she lives in Las Vegas, too!)

If you’ve just thought of a really cool Philosophy of Life, leave me a comment, below. I want to take a look.

To update your profile info, sign into your account, click the profile tab, and then choose “Edit your personal details” on the top right.

Spoken Word

Spoken Word

It was difficult to write this Blog, to introduce my very fledgling playlist of Spoken Word poetry….probably because anything I compose will sound lame compared to the words and voices of these poets. So I will just write – here are some beautiful, strong, easygoing and hard poems, and more will be added as they are found.

Lonnie's Spoken Word Playlist

Enjoy.

eSnips Radio: 9 channels all featuring… you!

The eSnips radio was launched in April, but I have a feeling that it’s underused. The radio streams 40 songs and tracks from each of 9 eSnips communities: Blues, Electronics, Karaoke, Industrial, Jazz, Rap, Reggae, Remix, and Rock (I’ve alphabetized the list as to not insult anyone.)

The songs are always changing because inclusion in a specific radio channel is based on the community to which the song belongs AND on being favorited.  It’s our way to bring songs that listeners enjoy to the attention of the rest of the community.  I listen to it here at my desk (shhh.. don’t tell anyone) because it’s a great way to listen to the stuff that you ‘Snippers have shared in a sort of random manner and not just by listening to my usual faves.

You can access the radio channels from every music community, and create a widget to place on your blog, as I’ve done below.

So, listen up!

And, as always, we await your feedback.

Need faster uploads? You got ‘em!

Two new items that we wanted to tell you about that are part of our new version:

The flash upload is now the default way to upload files on eSnips. When you click on “upload files” from a folder or from “My eSnips” you now see a new interface: our flash-based upload. The new interface will let you upload several files at once, describe and tag the files. Also, the upload itself is much faster than before.  Regular_upload Of course, you can always use our old upload by clicking the “Regular Upload” button at the top right of the screen.

Note that the toolbar is still the easiest way to upload files from your desktop to your eSnips account.

We also launched a new feature that will help keep copyrighted materials away from eSnips.  The new system will prevent the upload of files that have previously reported as a violation of copyright and removed from the site.   We hope that this will put the spotlight on your original songs and covers, writings, music, images and work.

Wear your stuff!

We’ve recently partnered with Zazzle, a company specializing in custom printing on everything from t-shirts to mugs.  This means that you can now get any image you have uploaded to eSnips printed on whatever you want, and have it shipped to you.

Zazzle

How to do it?  First, log into your eSnips account. Underneath your picture, you’ll see a new set of options: Print picture on: shirt, mouse pad, mug and sticker. Clicking on one of these will take you to the Zazzle site, where the t-shirt with your image will be displayed. You can then customize it a bit more by choosing the color of the t-shirt, adding text… whatever you want.

Sumo

Right now, this service is only offered for stuff that you have uploaded.  We think that it’s only fair to let only you print your stuff. If you think differently about this, please let us know.

New on eSnips: the slideshow!

Slideshow

A few days ago we added a new folder view: the Slideshow. Every folder that has images in it now has the “Run Slideshow” button just above the files. All you need to do is click on this button and, presto, a slideshow is created. Naturally, you can grab a link to the slideshow, embed it anywhere, or just sit back and enjoy the show.

Here’s a slideshow that I generated from a folder that I really like – by Starlette, a graphic designer.

Enjoy!
