It’s hell in marketing….

For the past few days, a “perfect storm” of events has hit the marketing room here at eSnips: on one hand, there’s a terrible heat wave outside (around 35C/95F with 75% humidity) and the air conditioner in our part of the office died. This has made working conditions practically unbearable, to the point where our graphic designer put up a “welcome to hell!” sign on our door…

Thus inspired, I looked through eSnips for photos (plus one fractal!) to best express my mood, and here’s what I came up with. Enjoy!

eSnips is a top 500 website!

Our Alexa ranking today made me happy: our traffic rank is 496, making us a top 500 site for (I think) the  first time ever. Alexa says that traffic rank is “based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach).”

Whatever it is, we’re proud of it!  And it’s all thanks to you – thanks for visiting and thanks for taking the time to view the great stuff on the site.

DJ Spin-Off – Results!

First off: DJs – thanks for a great contest! 

To say the least, these have been an interesting couple of weeks. Lonnie and I started the contest off by worrying about how to run a competition in the spirit of the community.  We listened to your suggestions and set up the competition accordingly.

Once the competition started, we worried about not having enough submissions… and then we worried about having too many. We ended up with around 100 entries with a very wide range of mixes and remixes, and had an absolute blast listening to them all in our office (how often do you have the chance to play some really loud beats and be able to tell the boss that you’re working??)   Yes, at times the going got rough, but in the end I think we all ended up a bit wiser.

I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Lonnie for taking this contest from the initial idea to the final playlist.  THANKS!

To all the DJs who participated – thanks for sharing your work with us!!  Be sure to send Lonnie your snail mail address so that we can get the “official” spin-off t-shirt to you ASAP!

New on eSnips: the slideshow!

A few days ago we added a new folder view: the Slideshow. Every folder that has images in it now has the “Run Slideshow” button just above the files. All you need to do is click on this button and, presto, a slideshow is created. Naturally, you can grab a link to the slideshow, embed it anywhere, or just sit back and enjoy the show.

Here’s a slideshow that I generated from a folder that I really like – by Starlette, a graphic designer.
