eSnips Videos for y'all.

Hi Guys!

Over the last months, some videos have been put together; things that we thought would be good content for the DJ and Video communities.

As kind of a "Last Blogge Poste" by me, they're featured here, for your viewing pleasure:

Update on the downlaod button and other things

Hi Everyone -

We want to update you on a few different things, some that you know about, some new.

They have all happened more or less at the same time, and have ended up affecting the site all at once.

First, a bit of background: we started getting alerted to copyright content on the site.We have never wanted to be a repository for copyrighted material! eSnips has a clear policy of not allowing copyrighted content illegally on the site. This policy has been articulated in the Terms of Use, in the forums and so on. eSnips is a place for original content, and we are proud of the quality of our user’s content and the community activity on our site!

And around this same time, we were approached by artists and reps wanting to post and sell their stuff here but without an automatic download.

It seemed like a good idea to coordinate the two - limiting automatic download, and taking care of any copyright on the site. Up until then we had no way to identify such content; we had acted according to DMCA guidelines and taken down any materials indicated to us as copyrighted.

After researching the different solutions on the market, we implemented Audible Magic. eSnips is committed to using any new technologies to identify copyrighted materials as they become available.

On top of all this, recently we discovered about sites set up to abuse eSnips, and exploit content on the site, use up our bandwidth and avoid even the lack of a download button!

So we are trying a more limited bandwidth for a while. We have tried to do what will cause a minimum of problems to esnippers in general, and we are still monitoring it to see how things develop. We have already made a fine-tuning in the bandwidth as a result of feedback we got from esnippers, and we hope you see that in your browsing the site.

In around a month and a half we should finish all the scans and tests, and then we can re-evaluate the bandwidth and download options.

As changes are made, we will update you all.

We want to thank you for your patience with all this going on.

Bob Marley Tribute

eSnips has so many talented singers and DJs here , and some of them share a love of Bob Marley's music.

For his birthday today, Genise, who loves Reggae with a passion, put together with other singers a beautiful folder of covers and mixes of his work. You can hear the Bob Marley tribute here, I suggest listening to it in a playlist, so it washes over you... bliss.

what is also amazing is that this got put together in around a week!

Snippy Bon-Bon

We love Snippy – our friendly orange bird logo creature.

He goes skating, dancing, turns psychedelic and changes color, and he's got great taste in music and art! Have a look here.

We've thought for a while about creating a line of Snippy "objets-de-art" and memorabilia and other things that will allow Snippy to show off more of his cute and cuddly personality.

The first piece to be created is the "Snippy Bon-Bon" a hand made soft sculpture of Snippy.

Most of them will be given away to lucky eSnippers for fun and random things, but they will eventually be available to buy through the site, too.

Like – the eSnipper with the most commented file.

Or, the eSnipper who has made the most comments.

And anything we – or you  – can come up with!

Old friends - but new Moderators!

Hi Everyone -

Since Jake our music guy has taken a looong vacation to India, we have been looking for people who want to be involved in the communities, in a moderator position. A couple of people we had our eye on, some have already been helping out in different ways, and some I badgered until they couldn’t say no anymore! LOL

We want to welcome Genise, Dale and Jamlover who will be part of the team, joining Ian!

All extremely talented, all with lots of knowledge. 

Yay! Hi guys!

Jamlover will show his colors in Electronic, Dale and Genise in Karaoke – and as I know Genise has a passion for Reggae, you might find her discovering what's what there, too.

They are great because they love music and the people who make it; they care about the community and are generous and spirited with their writing.

We are still looking for more people, so if you are interested – let me know.

Updating you

The community pages should be working better this coming week: there is a new trial in place and it will be watched to see how it goes.

The download button will stay as is for now – we really hear your requests, and it still might be made the default option.

It's just not happening yet.

or - What in the World is Going on with the Community Pages...?

Hi to all

To all those who have wondered what is going on with the community pages.

Well, i'll tell ya.

(I did write about it before, but that was in another place...)

What's going on is a rebuilding of them.

Outwardly, they seemed fine - but they were outdated and demanded an overhaul. So we decided to put them together again, so they would be absolutely fabulous.

Now, we have done it, but there have been some surprises while we were working on it.

And there have been other things that happened at the same time, which caused other things.

In short - things have gone slower than planned.

I can guess this is frustrating to some of you.

It will be over soon.

Site Downtime for Upgrading

Hi!

There will be a short downtime on the site at 2 am EST on the 23rd of December - between Saturday night and Sunday morning - in order to upgrade the site. It shouldn’t last more than 2 hours – and it will probably be less than that.
